Spring 2008
This winter was one of the longest and snowiest winters that I can remember!
It’s so nice to bask in the warm sunshine of spring
With the warm
weather now here, I have been inspired to create more paintings for the series
of farm and country children, being launched by one of Canada’s leading
publisher/distributers this fall. They will be printed as open edition prints on
canvas and will be introduced to stores and galleries across North America by
early fall 2008.
I will still be
available to create portrait commissions for clients, as this has always been a
love of mine. I was quite excited recently to be commissioned to paint a
portrait of our own Buzz Grant which you will see on the cover of this
newsletter. What an emotional moment it must have been for him to win the
Canadian Super Bantamweight Championship!
I paint most of
my work at my public studio in downtown Orangeville, where we were delighted to
welcome painter Sharon
Wadsworth-Smith, as well as glass bead artists Joan Hope and Beth Grant. Joan
and Beth will be making glass beads every Friday, so come and watch the magic
happen.
I will continue to participate in the numerous fall shows and studio tours, including the SGI
Show, Orangeville Fall Fair, Monora Park Show, the Headwaters studio Tour, and
teach a class for Kidsfest. I will print the times and dates of these shows and
tours in the Fall Newsletter, as there are so many talented local artists to
visit at this time.
I am afraid that
I have had to put teaching art classes on hold for now, but I hope to start
classes up again in the near future, as it is such a joy to explore art
together.
After all,
creating art is always an adventure.
Happy spring.
Sincerely,
Jill
We are so fortunate to have such a supportive community for the arts, and this
is most apparent in the fall.
There
are art shows, studio tours, and the Headwaters Arts Festival that embraces all
of the arts, including theatre, music, and Kidsfest.
Fall Fairs are
also an integral part of the Fall, and I am excited to be manning a double booth
in the Orangeville Fall Fair this year. I find the atmosphere casual and
playful, and a great venue to chat with people, which I always love to do!
The “Headwaters
Arts Festival Show and Sale” (also known as the SGI Show), is the next show that
I will be participating in, followed by the three weekend Studio Tour.
I will also be
teaching a drawing and painting class (with oil pastels) for Kidsfest again this
year, with the class being held in my studio in downtown Orangeville.
Finally, the
Orangeville Art Group holds it’s large annual art show in the Monora Park
Pavilion in November. This is an opportunity to view and purchase some excellent
work from some of our community’s talented artists.
I will continue
to paint scenes of local children working and playing on their farm, because I
am really enjoying creating this series. I am also very excited to announce that
this series has been purchased by one of the largest publishers/distributers in
Canada. That will mean that my
series of country children will be available in galleries and high-end retail
stores across North America by this time next year! I am really excited, and as
this is all very new to me, I will keep you posted about this incredible
opportunity as it unfolds.
I will also
continue to paint portraits of course, as this has always been a love of mine.
I hope that you
get an opportunity to experience some of our artistic culture as it is
celebrated during this gorgeous time of the year!
Sincerely,
Jill ( S. J. Pringle)
Spring 2007
Well, it’s time to plant our
gardens, the warmer weather
is finally here!
This fall and winter were especially long, but the art shows and studio tours
seemed to keep many people warm and inspired. The Headwater’s Studio Tours, SGI
Art Show, and the Monora Park Show were all wonderful. The Monora Park Show,
which is run by the Orangeville Art Group, had their most successful show to
date! I plan to be a participant in all of these shows again this year, as well
as having a booth at the Orangeville Fall Fair. I will keep you posted.
I recently
finished a painting titled “Under the Apple Boughs”, which has been reproduced
for the cover of this newsletter. The Limited Edition Prints of this painting
will be available by the end of March. This is the second in a series of farm
paintings and drawings depicting our precious rural way of life. The next in the
series, which I will start soon, will be of a local farm girl and her chickens.
I am now working
four or five days of the week in the studio, making more time available to
complete commissions and paintings. This also allows me more time to prepare for
my children’s art classes that I teach at the Bevelled Edge Gallery. This is
always a lot of fun!
My work will be
on display in the Dragonfly, Arts on Broadway window
from March 27th - April 10th. The Dragonfly.
has many local artists displaying their work in the windows of the store, with a
new artist every two weeks.
The Dragonfly
will also be having Spring Workshops which will include card making, jewelry
creations as well as silk scarf paintings. Each workshop will be taught by a
local artist. What a nice opportunity to unleash some of that spring creativity!
Well, I guess it’s time to get out and attempt to create this year’s flower
garden. I don’t have much of a green thumb, but maybe if I fill it in with my
children’s painted stones, it won’t look half bad.
Fall 2006
Summer was wonderful!
I was able to enjoy working on commissions outside in the gorgeous
sunshine while watching my two kids squeal with glee as they ran back and forth
through the sprinkler.
I was also able to finish another painting that is now offered as a limited
edition print, called “A Song of Spirits”. It is a playful painting of my
friend’s son sharing a moment with the cows on their farm (it is the painting on
the cover of this newsletter).
I am really enamored with children right now as subjects for my paintings,
especially farm life, which is becoming a rare type of livelihood these days
unfortunately.
The Orangeville Heritage Festival brought the farmers and locals alike to
celebrate the past, and I was able to display my work, and enjoy learning about
the way of life in this area from long ago. It was fascinating.
This fall, my work will be available at a very prestigious show called the
Headwaters Arts Festival Show and Sale, or the “S.G.I.” Show, in Alton. It will
have a wide variety of art from many talented local artists. It will run from
Saturday September 23rd until Sunday October 1st, with the opening party on
Friday September 22nd, from 6pm until 10pm. Tickets for the opening show will be
$50 each, with catered food and wine provided
Once again, I will be participating in the Headwaters Studio Tour this year. It
has always been a lot of fun meeting new people from Toronto and area, as well
as catching up with our wonderful “locals”.
The last show of the season will be the Monora Park Show, on Highway 10,
South of Hockley Road. The show will be October 21st and 22nd, from 10am until
5pm. This will be my first time participating, and I’ve been told that it is a
great show made up of work strictly from the Orangeville Art Group, so it should
be well worth going to.
Fall is usually quite a busy time for artists, with so many shows and studio
tours taking advantage of the people out and about enjoying the wonderful
colours around this area.
Nature is always the most spectacular art that there is!
Enjoy the splendor.
I love spring!
The warm weather is
inviting us outdoors, and helping us to forget the chills of the past winter.
This winter was long but
productive, and our Dragonfly Studio Artists welcomed two new members- Vic
Sullivan and Susan Powell. They are both very talented artists, and compliment
our diverse group of Studio Artists nicely.
Some of my work will be
coming out of my studio for a showing in the
Dragonfly Arts on Broadway
window from April 11-April 24.
I have recently been
fortunate to have the opportunity to display my work in some Brampton Law
Offices, as well as in a wonderful family restaurant in Grand Valley called
Marie’s Valley Inn.
These originals and Limited Edition Prints
will be displayed at these venues for the next few months.
In Grand Valley, a show
called “Artisans At Your Library” will take place on April 20 at 7:30pm in which
local artisans (including myself), will be displaying their work. During the
show, library volunteers will be receiving awards for their wonderful
contributions.
I have been busy over the
winter teaching Children's art classes at the Bevelled Edge Gallery, Grand
Valley Library, as well as in private homes throughout the area. What a treat it
always is to share the love of art with such amazing kids!
I will be teaching a
workshop in Grand Valley for
Kidsfest
again this year. The details have yet to be decided upon.
This summer and fall will
have some wonderful Art Shows and Tours of which I hope to be a part of again. I
will keep you posted as to the location and time.
Well, the beauty of
spring is upon us, and I hope that you are able to enjoy it to it’s fullest.
Happy gardening!
Fall is such a beautiful time of year!
With the gorgeous coloured leaves everywhere, we are reminded that this really
hot summer is officially over.
It also means that the “Art Walk on Broadway” is finished, and so the rest of my
original art from the window of
Greenhawk will
have found it’s way back into my studio at the
Dragonfly, Arts on
Broadway for now. The responses received from this “Art Walk” were
wonderful!
I also had a happy surprise this summer when I happened upon my commissioned
house paintings in some large advertisements in the newspaper, as well as in the
MLS listings on the internet.
At the beginning of August, some of my work was set up as a permanent display in
a store called
Creative
Soul, located on the main street of Grand Valley. It is a very unique
store that is going through some wonderful changes, possibly including the
addition of some yoga and meditation classes.
I will also be having some classes of my own this fall. The first will be a one
day workshop for the “Headwaters Arts Festival”, called “Children’s Creative Art
Class”, and will take place Thursday evening, September 29th. The second will be
eight weeks of classes running Saturday mornings, starting on October 22nd, and
finishing on December 10th. Both of these classes will be held at the Grand
Valley Public Library, and the details are given in the box below.
Fall is such a perfect time of year for walks and drives to marvel at the ever
changing leaves. Studio Tours take advantage of this splendor, and there are two
very enjoyable tours for this area. The “Headwaters Arts Festival Studio Tour”
will be taking place on weekends starting Saturday September 24th, and finishing
Sunday October 9th, and the “Headwaters Studio Tour”, running three days, Friday
October 14th to Sunday October 16th. I am quite excited to be a participant of
both. There are free brochures describing these tours available in stores, as
well as at my studio. The websites for these two tours are listed below.
I hope that you will be able to
enjoy the beautiful colours decorating our region at this time of year. I know
that I will be out there with my kids, helping them collect leaves for pressing.
Maybe I will see you on the
trails!
Sincerely,S. J. Pringle (Jill)
I can’t believe that it’s
summer already!
Spring was a busy season,
and the
Dragonfly Studio Artist’s
Art Show was quite a
success, even during a snow storm! A “thank you” to all who came, it was a lot
of fun.
It
is enjoyable being at my
Dragonfly Arts on Broadway
public studio each weekend.
It is wonderful chatting with people as well as actually getting a lot of work
done. I have already had a few commissions to complete, including one from a
construction company for illustrations of houses that have yet to be built.
On
some weekends I have been able to enjoy the warm summer days by bringing my
paintings outside to work on. I usually set up my easel in front of the
Dragonfly in
downtown Orangeville, and am always warmed by the people that come and chat with
me while I work.
Drawings and paintings of horses were on my “to do” list this spring, as the
Greenhawk horse store on Broadway (519-942-4556) requested some special
pieces for their window display. There will be a few of my paintings of horses and other animals in
their window for sale while the “Art Walk on Broadway” event is on during the
months of June, July and August.
This fall, I will be participating in the Headwater’s Studio Tour, taking place
on October 14, 15 and 16th. Maps for the tour will be available at many venues
and stores, including the
Dragonfly Arts on Broadway.
For the fall Arts
Festival, I will be running one Art Class at the Grand Valley Public Library.
The sign-up will most likely be at the library in September, as the day and time
have yet to be decided. The class is planned for seven to ten year old children,
with all materials provided. I will keep you posted, as there will be a limited
number of seats available.
I
will also be teaching children’s Art Classes at the Grand Valley Public Library
starting around the end of October, or beginning of November. Again, details
have yet to be worked out and will be provided in my fall Newsletter, or by
calling the library or myself closer to September.
Well, that’s all of the news for now, and thank you to those that have already
visited my studio, it has been wonderful to see familiar faces.
Have a very safe and happy summer!
Sincerely, S. J. Pringle (Jill)
2004 was a very busy and
fulfilling year and it seems that 2005 will be just as rewarding.
Beginning on March 15th
I will be working in a public studio, a gallery called
‘Dragonfly, Arts on Broadway
(519-941-5249) , located on
the main street in Orangeville, Ontario. It is a wonderfully unique store,
containing original art from potters, wood carvers, and jewelry makers, as well
as from fine artists. I will be sharing this large working studio with
four artists who also paint, each of us creating from our own unique
perspective.
The five of us will have a special showing of our work from April 1st
to April 10, 2005 at the
Dragonfly
There will be a special “Meet the Artists” day on Saturday April 2nd
from 10am to 5pm, with refreshments available. Each of us will make
available an original drawing or painting to be won in a raffle, with all of the
proceeds from ticket sales going to Hospice Dufferin. The raffle pieces
will be on view at the
Dragonfly a few
weeks before the show, with the selection of the winners taking place on the
last day of the show.
My
paintings, drawings, and unique hand-painted art cards will be available for
choosing anytime that the
Dragonfly is open.
I will be working at the store’s studio every Saturday and Sunday from
mid morning to about 4pm.
As
well, I am planning to be an exhibitor in the
Headwaters Studio Tour
this fall, I will keep you
posted.
I
am quite excited to be producing my first painting that will be available as a
limited edition print this year. It will be one of a series of detailed
paintings, to be based on ‘a slice of life’ of people living in the 1900’s to
the 1950’s. I am quite excited about this endeavor, as I will be painting
it in the new studio..
Anyone interested in seeing my first limited edition print, just call or e-mail
me and I will send you an image, and purchasing information when it is
completed. Unfortunately it won’t be available for sale at the
Dragonfly as they
only sell original art works.
Of
course I will still be completing a variety of commissions for customers
including portraits, wildlife and murals, as I thoroughly enjoy this aspect of
my art business as well.
Well, that is all of the news for now; I will keep you posted about any new
developments with my next newsletter.
I
look forward to meeting with you in 2005,
sincerely,
S.
J. Pringle (Jill)
