Portrait Artist
The texture of fieldstone in a barn
wall, sunlight on a child’s little hand, an errant wisp of silk in a milkweed
pod… details portray the skill in Jill’s work and the intimacy she feels with
her portraits. In pencil or with
chalk pastels, Jill (S.J. Pringle) captures a moment in life and shares it.
Her two young children are, of course,
favorite subjects as they interact with the world around them.
They share Jill’s love of nature, of animals and Jill expresses their
innocence, intrigue and curiosity in the expressions and movements she captures.
Jill is self taught and has honed her
abilities since high school and through college where she studied Veterinarian
Technology. Her love of nature,
farm and country life was nourished on her Uncle Danny’s farm when she was young
and during much farm living since then. Perhaps it’s no surprise that her husband grew up on a farm.
Now, they live in Grand Valley, Ontario, next to the Grand River, the
countryside and farmland that surround it… the inspiration and backdrop for a
great many of her works.
Jill’s Country Children print series is
now available in gift shops and galleries throughout North America and she is
beginning to realize her dream of becoming a full-time artist.“
By painting the next generation enjoying country life, I am rekindling
my own happy memories. I wanted to
make this series warm and authentic - to preserve a true moment in time.”
In her public studio at Dragonfly Arts
on Broadway in Orangeville, Ontario, Jill takes portrait commissions; capturing
moments in loved-one’s lives to keep… and the evocative details that make them
most memorable.
